Electricity with No Math!
By John Jacobson
The irrepressible Japanese Manga is back, this point talking concerning electricity. The series from the No Starch Press uses the genre of Japanese cartoons to show serious topics in science and technology.
The book starts with an outline of the physical nature of electricity, an outline of positive and negative charge, and also the units used to live electricity together with the distinction between current flow (amperage) and current force (volts). It introduces electricity within the several forms we tend to use and skill daily, together with static electricity, direct current as found in flashlights, and electrical circuits like one finds in buildings. It introduces Ohm's law, the fundamental relationship between current flow, current force, and also the resistance of the electrical conductor.
It then proceeds to debate several alternative sensible topics together with the link between current, resistance, and warmth generation, and the way electricity generates magnetic fields. Fleming's right- and left-hand rules are described. Basic parts of circuits found in devices like MP3 players or televisions are presented. These embrace coils, capacitors, and solid state devices like diodes, transistors, temperature and optical sensors.
There is a six page index. There are not any issues to resolve within the book, it's no vital math. one amongst the strengths of the series that whereas the fundamental ideas are introduced through the story told via the cartoons, extra info of a additional detailed nature is offered at the tip of every chapter. This provides a chance for the reader who is inquisitive about additional study on a subject. e.g. when the story within the cartoon section describes the chemical reactions that give energy for dry cell batteries, the prose at the tip of the chapter discusses the range of how within which power plants powered by heat, nuclear processes, wind, and water produce energy for our use.
This is a cleverly written book, quite sensible in nature. (It even mentioned circuit breakers!) it's a wonderful introduction for the young student {interested in|curious concerning|inquisitive about|fascinated by} learning additional about electricity, and would even be applicable for the adult with no math or science background.
